‘Independent Thinking’ Alumni Magazine, 2015

Client: University College Cork

Project brief: Acting as a ‘creative catalyst’ for UCC’s Alumni Magazine, Vermillion helped to transform its design and connect the magazine to the widest possible audience. Feedback to the new Alumni Magazine was overwhelmingly positive. Within the first month, visits to the Development and Alumni website increased 300%, and 562 individual alumni updated their contact details.

The project began with UCC’s editorial team revitalising the magazine’s content, with Vermillion working closely alongside to design the magazine’s new look-and-feel. UCC formed partnerships with the Irish Examiner and the Irish Times to distribute 175,000 copies of the magazine nationally.

The Vermillion digital marketing saw that the new magazine could be used as a focus for social media, to reach UCC’s younger alumni and global diaspora. We established a ‘digital forum’ working group involving UCC’s alumni office, marketing communications, and Digital Estate Working Group. An interactive pdf of the magazine was created for UCC’s website. Web analytics were used to evaluate user engagement and guide future content. Vermillion directed the initial social media presence for UCC alumni on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.
